Untitled Oil Installation
Wäinö Aaltonen Museum, Turku
2004
Curated by Kari Immonen
Untitled Oil Installation was a 2 m x 2 m and 5 cm deep oil basin that was levitating 130 cm high suspended
with cables from each four walls of the room. The minimized structure kept the pool totally horizontal
although the whole system was balancing on one single point.
The installation related to the proportions and structural organisation of the exhibition space itself. The
black mirror like surface of oil reflected the sky through a roof window above the basin. The stillness and
stability of the installation combined with the extreme structure created a peaceful but at the same time
waiting ambience in the whole space.
