Aluminium reflectors, microphones, speakers, reel-to-reel tape recorders, sound-volume limiter, amplifier
Four pairs of parabolic reflectors are mounted facing each other on the walls of the exhibition space. Each
pair has a microphone at the focal point of one reflector and a speaker at the focal point of the other. The
sound of the space is picked up by a microphone, transmitted to a tape recorder and played back by a speaker
in another pair of reflectors. The microphone opposite this speaker then picks up the reproduced sound, and so
on. The audio signal travels through four pairs of reflectors, mixing with new sounds. The sounds are recorded
and played back using two reel-to-reel tape recorders, one channel for each pair of reflectors. The tape
recorders introduce a short delay, creating an artificial after-echo in the space. This sensitive system is
constantly on the verge of producing acoustic feedback.
