360 degree led light, timer, power source, electric cable, steel wire
The Finnish Light Art Society Helsinki organized first Flash biennial in Suomenlinna fortress on the islands just outside Helsinki center. The building work of the fortress started in the last half of 18th century, and today it is on Unesco World Heritage List.
The artist had optional sites to choose from for their work, and they ended up using old pump well showing the height of water in nearby dry dock, which is still in use. At the time of the biennial the dry dock and thus the old well were empty.
The site-specific installation consisted of a powerful 360 degree led light hanged in the center of the well. It drew a line of sea-level on the walls of the well with red and slightly trembling light, reminding of its former use. Through its title, the work also referred to the expected rise of sea level due to climate change, and the consequences of it.
